Surge inductors are specially designed inductors used to handle short-duration, high-current surges in circuits. They act as part of surge protection devices to mitigate the effects of voltage spikes and current transients. Surge inductors also serve a dual role in lightning protection and radio frequency signal filtering.

    How they work:
When a surge occurs, the inductor stores energy in its magnetic field and then
releases it back into the circuit, effectively slowing down the current's rate of
change and reducing the voltage spike.
